French gilt mantle clock of at least fourteen days duration with extraordinary curved and bevelled glass. Except for the glass on the rear door which is flat and bevelled all the other glasses are bent and curved - the top and side glasses in two directions! Dial painted enamel with gilt hands, the pendulum has a fine portrait of a beautiful young lady painted on ivory and signed RODIER. Dismantling the pendulum a piece of backing paper (illustrated)has the name of the lady Mdme Beurley.
This must have been a hugely expensive clock when it was made in the late nineteenth century finished to the highest quality. No damage to the glass or dial.Strikes hour and half hour.
