Optician's sample frame
With the founding of the National Health Service in Great Britain after the end of WWII, spectacles were provided free to the population provided they chose from the limited variety on offer. This specimen board shows the full range available if you wanted free frames and covers all the mens', womens' and childrens' styles available! The range remained unchanged for over forty years and were universally hated until they were abolished when overnight they became the "in" thing to have especially when John lennon sported a pair.
Date anytime from late 1940s to about 1960.
